Mission Statement

The Prosecutors office is the chief law enforcement agency in the county. It is the mission of the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office to create and preserve an environment of safety and security for the citizens of Cumberland County. We are committed to a standard of excellence in providing our citizens with effective and efficient investigation and prosecution of crime and innovative leadership for law enforcement. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community while continuously improving service to the community.

Legislative Authority

The authority of the Cumberland county prosecutor is established under N.J.S.A. 2A:158-1.

"There shall be appointed, for each county, by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate to serve for a term of five years and until the appointment and qualifications of his successor, some fit person who shall have been admitted to the practice of law in this state for at least five years, who shall be known as the county prosecutor and who, except as otherwise provided by law, shall prosecute the pleas of the state in such county and shall have all the powers and perform all the duties formerly had and performed by the prosecutor of the pleas of such county."

All the functions, powers and duties of the attorney general relating or pertaining to the enforcement and prosecution of the criminal business of the state and any county of the state shall be exercised through the county prosecutor. 

N.J.S.A. 52:17b-109 the Cumberland county prosecutor's office is under the overall supervision of the Prosecutor who shall be appointed by the governor of the state of New Jersey. The prosecutor shall administer the work of the prosecutor's office under the direction and supervision of the Attorney General.
