New Jersey Light Trap Information

The New Jersey light trap is a metal cylinder with a rain shroud on top to prevent water from entering the collection chamber at the bottom. Under the shroud is a light bulb (usually 20 watt), which attracts mosquitoes and pulls them into a jar laced with pesticide, killing them. The mosquitoes are collected from these traps, counted, and identified to species. There are 15 such traps located strategically throughout the County.
