10/31/2010 - East Point Lighthouse Annual Open House

Huge Day of Art, Music, Food & Nature
on Cumberland County’s Bayshore

The fall season gets underway with a regional favorite Saturday, September 18th at the Annual Open House and Artists’ Day at the East Point Lighthouse.

This family event, sponsored by the Maurice River Historical Society and the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission features art, music, food, crafts, lighthouse tours and nature adventures in what is always a fabulous day on Cumberland County’s bayshore.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic East Point Lighthouse located at the mouth of the Maurice River and Delaware Bay in Heislerville, NJ.

Returning to the music stage this year with four hours of great music are East Point favorites the Snake Brothers and blues artist Steve Byrne.

East Point LighthouseArtists young and old are invited to bring along their sketchbooks, paints and cameras and set up on the beach.

Onlookers will be able to observe artists from the Barn Studio of Art who will be on hand all day at their easels creating new works of art.

Volunteers from the Nature Conservancy will set up an “exploration station” on the beach where visitors can cast seine nets to discover tiny bay creatures. And experts from the Natural Lands Trust will have scopes set up to observe magnificent shore birds and raptors.

The beautiful Delaware Estuary has been described as “one of the last great places,” and this annual event is a great way to discover or rediscover this local treasure.

Signs for East Point and Heislerville can be found on Route 47 south of the junction with Route 347.

Funding for the event is made possible in part by the NJ State Council of the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency with the National Endowment of the Arts and the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
