9/16/2011 - AARP Driver Safety Program

The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and older. The AARP course has helped millions of drivers remain safe on roads.

The course teaches current rules of the road, how to operate motor vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment, and some adjustments to age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.

Participants learn about:

  • The effects of medications on driving.
  • How to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots.
  • How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car.
  • The safest ways to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections.
  • Eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and cell-phone use.
  • Properly using safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes.
  • Maintaining physical flexibility.

The Cumberland County Office on Aging and Disabled will hold the next AARP Driver Safety Program from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 16 & Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Millville Rescue Squad, located at 600 Cedar Street in Millville. This is an 6-hour course given over two days. Students must attend both days.

Cost is $14 ($12 for AARP members) payable to AARP. Mail check to:
