3/6/2011 - 4-H To Host Environmental Education Program

Are you interested in learning about the environment? Do you want to learn how you can help your community address environmental concerns?

“Caring Keepers of Our Planet Earth” is the theme for the 4-H Environmental Ambassador Program set for May 23-25. This program, open to boys and girls in grades 5-7 will focus on waste management and environmental conservation. Program participants will stay at Appel Farm Arts & Music Center in Elmer.

Funding for all educational program and activity supplies, lodging, meals, and transportation for participants is provided by Wheelabrator Gloucester, Inc.; Cumberland County Improvement Authority - Clean Communities Program; Gloucester County Improvement Authority & Board of Chosen Freeholders; Salem County Improvement Authority-Solid Waste Division; Giordano’s Recycling of Vineland and the Cumberland 4-H Advisory Committee”, says Jeannette Rea-Keywood, County 4-H Agent. “Therefore, this 3-day hands-on environmental education program is FREE! While at this conference, delegates will build their own mini-landfill, model incinerator and worm compost bin; tour a waste-to-energy plant, a landfill, a composting facility, and much more".

Schools in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties are invited to send a delegation of 5-10 youth and 1-2 teachers or adults. Registrations are being accepted on a first come, first served basis until Friday, May 6. 4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills!
