Huge Day of Art, Music, Food & Nature on County’s Bayshore – This Saturday

This Saturday, September 17th from 10 am to 4 pm, East Point Lighthouse will host the Annual Open House and Artists’ Day co-sponsored by the Maurice River Historical Society and the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission. This family event features art, music, food, crafts, lighthouse tours, and a great day on Cumberland County’s bayshore.

As in years past, the perennial favorites The Snake Brothers and Steve Byrne will return to perform some of their favorite folk songs from noon to 4 pm. As always, the lighthouse will be open for tours to the cupola (donations welcome), from which visitors can see the beauty of the bayshore for miles.

Named for the artists who set up their easels around the lighthouse, this year’s event brings together artists from the region as selected by The Barn Studio of Art in Millville. Members of Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River and Its Tributaries will be hosting the “Paint the Lighthouse” tent with watercolors, easels and paintbrushes available for budding artists to try their hand at painting the beautiful scenery of the day.

“For those who have not experienced the pleasure of the bayshore, this is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of some of its best features,” said Roy Kaneshiki, Chairman of the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission. “From the crabbing and fishing along the dikes in Matt’s Landing to the historic beauty of East Point Lighthouse, this area is truly a hidden gem.”

East Point Lighthouse is located at the mouth of the Maurice River and Delaware Bay in Heislerville, New Jersey in Southern Cumberland County. Signs for East Point and Heislerville can be found on Route 47 south of the junction with Route 347.

This event is funded in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State and the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders through the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
