County Government Hosts Student Leaders
Bridgeton, NJ – Cumberland County Freeholders and Department Heads will host 48 eighth grade students from 14 Schools though out the County. Freeholder Director Joe Derella said that “the operation of County Government is more involved that people realize. County Government Day is a great opportunity to share information about the inter - workings of County government with our future leaders”.
Deputy Director Darlene Barber said that “the New Jersey Association of Counties traditionally celebrates County Government during the Month of April. However, since Cumberland County provides opportunities for students to shadow the Freeholders and Department Heads, Cumberland is celebrating in May to ensure that there is no interference with the State Testing in our school districts. Deputy Director Barber said that the Freeholder Board and County Departments are so pleased to be able to share information about County Government and hopefully inspire our youth to begin thinking about future careers in County Government”.
After daytime program, students shadowing Freeholders and the Clerk to the Board will participate in a mock Freeholder Meeting that will begin at 5:30 PM on Tuesday May 17, 2016 at the County Administration Building located at 164 West Broad Street, Bridgeton, NJ.
