VINELAND, NJ—Learn about Jewish end-of-life and mourning rituals at a two day program, free and open to the public, on two consecutive Sundays, May 15 and 22, at Beth Israel Congregation, 1015 E. Park Ave., Vineland.

The program, entitled “From Life to the Afterlife,” is presented by Chevra Kadisha of Alliance, and co-sponsored by Beth Israel Congregation, Rone Funeral Service, South Jersey Board of Rabbis & Cantors, and Jewish Federation of Cumberland, Gloucester & Salem Counties.
People can register for one or both programs—live or virtual. Lunch is included both days.

The parts of the program are as follows:

Sunday, May 15, 12 to 4 p.m.—From Bikur Cholim (Visiting the Sick) to Burial
Kavod v’Nichum, of Gamaliel Institute, will give an overview of Jewish end-of-life practices and a hands-on demonstration of the Taharah ritual (preparation of the body for burial). Kavod v’Nichum and Gamaliel Institute provide resources, education, and training along the Jewish end-of-life continuum, from visiting the sick and pre-planning, to care for the body after death, to comforting mourners.

Sunday, May 22, 12 to 2 p.m.—From Burial to Yahrzeit
Rabbi Abby Michaleski, of Beth Israel Congregation, will lead this lunch-and-learn session on Jewish mourning rituals and the soul’s journey through the first year.
