5/11/2022 - Cumberland County Library Sponsers Mental Health Awareness Month Events
The Cumberland County Library is pleased to announce two community health events this May, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.
The first library-sponsored community health event, titled “Mindful Meditation and Stress Reduction”, will be on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00pm.
This virtual presentation will discuss the health and wellness benefits of mindful meditation and provide examples of stress-relieving breathing techniques that can be used anytime.
Anyone interested in viewing this event has the option of viewing it from home over Zoom, or coming to the Cumberland County Library to participate in a group viewing of the presentation.
To register for the Zoom meeting, or to sign up for the group viewing, please contact Brendan McCarty at (856) 453-2210 x 26104 or via email: brendanmc@cclnj.org
The second library-sponsored community health event, called “Walk For Wellness”, will be on Saturday, May 21 from 10:00am-2:oopm at the Bridgeton High School Stadium.
Walk For Wellness will be free to attend, and will be a unique event that combines a health fair and walk-athon.
Social service and community health agencies will be setting up tables to share literature and speak with the public. Also, local yoga and fitness coaches will be providing exercise demonstrations on the football field, and of course, the track will be open for walking for those who want to get some exercise.
Kids are welcome to attend, and will have a variety of activities of their own. Facepainting, games, and an interactive puppet show by the author of “Corey Conquers Covid” will keep the young ones busy.
To drive the community health message home, nurses will be on hand to provide vaccinations and booster shots for those who are eligible. As an added incentive, the Cumberland County Library will be handing out $25 gift cards to Bottino’s ShopRite for every family member who gets vaccinated.
Finally, every family in attendance will receive a tote bag filled with COVID test kits, and personal health and hygiene supplies. The entire community is welcome to join in this family-friendly celebration of exercise and mental wellness!
