New Jersey Makers Day - "Backyard Habitat for Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies, and More" with Pat Sutton
Saturday, March 16, 11:00 a.m.

Celebrate New Jersey Makers Day by learning to make your yard a habitat for birds, butterflies, dragonflies and more! Pat Sutton will showcase native trees, shrubs, vines, wildflowers, and even weeds that are most beneficial to birds and other wildlife. From the perspective of a life-long naturalist intimate with the workings of the natural world, Sutton will share countless common-sense garden maintenance techniques that will help property owners avoid common practices that actually harm rather than benefit wildlife.

In addition to the obvious (bird feeders, bird houses, and bird baths), this program is packed with the "how’s and why’s" of attracting birds, butterflies and other wildlife to your backyard, no matter how small or how urban. In rapidly developing regions, backyards are critical wildlife habitat for nesting, migratory, and wintering birds, as well as frogs and toads, butterflies, dragonflies, and other beneficial insects. Learn how to create a wildlife refuge right out your own back door -- a refuge for you and for all wildlife.
This program is suitable for adults and teens and is funded by a New Jersey Makers Day MiniGrant from the New Jersey State Library and the PSEG Foundation.
Registration is required for this free event. For more information, please call (856) 453-2210 x26105 or visit cclnj.org

New Jersey Makers Day - Family Program “Gardening for Wildlife & Water Conservation” with the American Littoral Society
Saturday, March 16, 1 p.m.
Families are invited to celebrate New Jersey Makers Day at the Cumberland County Library! Join the American Littoral Society for a family-friendly program focusing on native plants and how pollinators, insects and other wildlife depend on them for food, water and shelter. Following the presentation, we’ll build planter boxes and each family that attends will receive 2-3 native plants to plant in them!

This program is funded by a New Jersey Makers Day MiniGrant from the New Jersey State Library and the PSEG Foundation. The planter boxes will be created by STEAMworks of Bridgeton and the native plants provided by Blue Moon Nursery of Woodstown. New Jersey Makers Day is a celebration of maker culture across the Garden State. This all-ages event connects individuals with libraries, schools, businesses, and independent makerspaces that support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing, and STEM-based learning.
Registration is required. For more information, please call (856) 453-2210 x26105 or visit cclnj.org
