County Superintendent of
Buildings & Grounds
Salary Range: TBD (Commensurate upon experience)


Definition: 
Under direction, supervises and works with a group of employees engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds, does related work as required.  Plans, organizes, leads, and directs the overall operations of the department. Develops and implements plans and objectives for the department in an effective and innovative fashion.  Ensures compliance with all County and departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.  Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, addresses employee concerns and problems, counsels, disciplines and completes performance reviews; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations.  Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide services to County residents. 

Experience: 
Five (5) years of experience in work involving the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds; two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

Requirements: 
Ability to work independently and the ability to successfully operate in a detail-oriented environment. 
Have demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to motivate people.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyze problems, organizes assigned work, and develops effective work methods.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Possession of a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

Example of Work:

Establishes, determines, maintains, and develops effective work plans for staff.
Establishes and maintains needed records.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of staff.
Ensures staff is regularly trained in the latest technology and safety procedures.
Ensures Right-To-Know and PEOSHA compliance.

Note: 
Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes 
drug screening, criminal background check, and verifications of clean driving record. Including ongoing random drug 
and alcohol testing.
