Starting Salary: $31,000
Definition: Under close supervision, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; formats and key enters/types correspondence, documents, reports, charts and other materials on a computer console, typewriter, or other key entry device used by the agency; does other related duties as required. Examples of Work:
• Reviews, sorts, and routes incoming correspondence and independently prepare response letters on routine matters.
• Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports by gathering data and relevant information.
• Sees that pertinent material is obtained from files and other sources, arranges it in usable form, and prepares memoranda and summaries as required.
• May provide information to those requesting it including department personnel, representatives of state, local, and other groups, organizations and agencies, and to the public in accord with established policy.
• Prepares meeting agendas, takes minutes and puts into official form.
• Maintains records and files.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of secretarial, clerical, and other office routines, procedures, and practices, and their application to specific situations.
• Knowledge of basic computer applications.
• Ability to read and interpret department regulations, programs, standards, and procedures.
• Ability to accurately type correspondence and reports.
• Ability to compute arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to organize assigned clerical work and develop effective work methods.
• Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.
• Ability to perform tasks accurately within prescribed time frames.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED
• Read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties
• Office experience is preferred.
• Valid New Jersey driver's license
Note: Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes drug screening and verification of clean driving record.
