Duties: Under direction of the Department Head, assists in providing leadership in the development and implementation of the work in the department; assists in coordinating community resources and services relating to concerns of older people; assists in maintaining liaison with state and local agencies and organizations. Aids in providing leadership, guidance, and administrative direction on the development and implementation of an information and referral service on community resources related to the broad field of aging. Consults with, advises, and otherwise provides professional assistance to organized efforts by community organizations, associations, and groups which can contribute to the understanding of aging or who should be aware of aging as a social process. Aids in maintaining a continuous inventory of resources and services available to older people, assessing adequacy of existing programs, identifying gaps, and stimulating alternatives and new solutions to persistent problems involving aging. Aids in planning and developing an education and public information program to develop knowledge and understanding of the real nature of aging. Aids in assembling, disseminating, and publicizing information of value to the public generally and to all groups concerned with the diverse subject of aging. Aid in promoting good public relations by speaking before various civic and community organizations. Does other related duties as required.

Requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and five (5) years of professional experience in either a paid or volunteer capacity in social work, public administration, public health, nursing, gerontology, or psychology. OR: Possession of a master's degree in any of the above fields; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

Knowledge: Knowledge of community development and planning and of community agencies and resources and an awareness of interrelatedness of social issues. Ability to work with public and private agencies. Ability to communicate with large and small groups through public speaking, leading discussions, and informal conversation. Ability to write and speak effectively. Ability to organize office work. Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the office. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.

Hours: The typical work week consists of 35 hours, Monday through Friday; however, flexibility in the work schedule may be required.

Note: Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes drug screen.
