Duties:
Under the direction of the Department Head, is responsible for assisting in the dissemination of information relating to the rights and benefits of veterans; interview veterans and their dependents to provide them with clear and accurate information relating to the various benefits provided under federal, state and local laws; conduct investigations relating to benefit claims cases and prepares the necessary forms required by the Veterans’ Administration; collect and distribute information of varied types concerning veteran’s rights and benefits; establish and maintain records and files; other related work as required. 

Requirements:
Ability to analyze and interpret federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies dealing with veterans’ rights and apply them to specific cases; ability to assist veterans in filing claims for service connection, pension, burial benefits and other eligible benefits; ability to prepare reports and correspondence; ability to abide by confidentiality standards and requirements; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform all duties of this position.

High school diploma, or equivalent. Secondary education is preferred.
Three to five years of office experience
Proficient computer skills, above average communication skills, command of professional writing, ability to deal tactfully with the public.
Must be able to successfully pass VSO accreditation within 1 year of employment
Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Honorably Discharged Veteran status required

License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey and abide by County Motor Vehicle Policies to perform the essential duties of the position.

Hours: The typical work week consists of 35 hours, Monday through Friday; however, flexibility in the work schedule may be required.  

Note: Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing, to include drug screening.
