Puppy Power 4-H Club member Michael Lucchesi of Vineland is seen holding his new 4-H Seeing Eye puppy. This yellow Labrador Retriever puppy arrived at the Lucchesi family home January 28 when he was 7 weeks old. Puppy Placement Area Coordinator, Christine Higham delivered the puppy to Michael and he and his family will care for the dog named “Ernest.” The Lucchesi family will expose their dog to a variety of experiences and social situations as part of the 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Project. Michael will also take his dog to monthly 4-H meetings to learn how to care for his dog and to teach the puppy basic obedience.

When “Ernest” is approximately 14 months old, he will return to the Seeing Eye facility in Morristown, New Jersey to begin formal guide-dog training. At the end of a three-month training period, the dog will be matched with a blind person.
