3/7/2011 - Jobs Skills Classes At Cumberland County Library

An additional 16 hours of computer classes will be held at the Cumberland County Library each month. These classes are part of the N.J. State Library’s Broadband Technology Opportunity Project, a $5.1 million federal grant from the national Telecommunications and Information Administration. The purpose of the BTOP project is to provide job search assistance and workforce development programs at libraries throughout the state.

This project will help to pave a road to economic recovery for our state by enabling New Jersey libraries to provide the access to the Internet and free training to help get New Jersey residents back to work and stimulate the economic growth our state needs,” said New Jersey State Librarian Norma Blake.

These additional classes will be instructed by Cumberland County College instructors and trainers, Cindy Hickman and Cindy Phillips.

The following classes will be instructed by Ms. Hickman and Phillips:

Microsoft Windows – Basic Job Readiness Training

Gain a basic understanding of the PC components & operations in the Microsoft Windows environment, including proper start-up & shut-down of the Windows operating system, running application programs, managing & organizing files/folders & printing.

Internet - Basic Job Readiness Training

A hands on class that will cover how to navigate the World Wide Web using the address bar and search engines. Learn how to effectively research information on the net. You will also learn how to protect yourself from viruses. Cumberland County Library electronic databases Career Accelerator and Career Transitions will be covered in this class.

Email – Basic Job Readiness Training

Learn the proper usage of web based email, email etiquette, responding to job listings, and on line applications. Each participant needing an email address will be assisted in the creation of a personal email account. This class is geared towards residents seeking jobs and will focus on workforce skills training.

Word – Basic Job Readiness Training

Learn the basic elements of MS Word 2010. Emphasis will be on the development of a resume and cover letter. This class is geared towards residents seeking jobs and will focus on workforce skills training.
