10/18/2011 - CATS Buses Offer New Advertising Opportunity

CATS Buses Roll Out New Advertising Opportunity & New Revenue Stream for County

Cumberland County officials launched a new way for area businesses to advertise Monday that will also provide revenue for the county.

The fleet of some 20 CATS (Cumberland Area Transportation Service) buses, which transport seniors, disabled and veterans throughout every corner of the county, will now carry advertising signage.

County officials unveiled some of the newly adorned buses at a press conference Monday afternoon.  Joining them were representatives of Astro Sign Company of Glassboro, which will be the official agent for the new program.

“This is a great marketing opportunity for county businesses and a great non tax revenue idea that helps us with budget planning,” said Freeholder Director Bill Whelan.  “Wherever I travel in the county, I always seem to cross the path of a CATS bus.  The number of people who will see these ads every day is considerable.”

“We are one of the first counties in the state to be doing this,” said Deputy Freeholder Director James Dunkins, chairman of the county health department.  “It makes so much sense to be able to boost the visibility of our business community as well as bring in money to the county.”

Astro Sign management said they intend to involve local vendors in the program whenever possible for printing and other services.

Advertisers will have a variety of options for sign formats and locations on the buses. Ads will be sold for 4-week periods with a minimum of 12 weeks.

CATS is a service of the Cumberland County Office on Aging and Disabled.
