10/19/2011 - Freeholders Commend Cumberland Manor Staff

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Freeholders Commend Cumberland Manor Staff as Public Hearings on Proposed Sale Approach

With less than a week until the first of two public hearings on the proposed sale of the Cumberland Manor Nursing Home, county freeholders are commending the Manor’s staff members for their professionalism during this period of uncertainty.

Two state-mandated public hearings on the proposed sale are scheduled, the first on October 24th and the second on November 10th.

Officials emphasize that despite rumors, there have been no decisions made about a possible sale.  And they want the public to know that even with the future ownership of the facility unclear, the standard of care for Manor residents remains high.

“For decades, the Manor has been a place where so many of us have entrusted the care of our parents and grandparents,” said Freeholder Director William Whelan.  “That quality of care is still our top priority.”

Freeholder Carl Kirstein, Chair of the Department of Public Property & Personnel, said particular credit goes to the Manor’s staff members.  “We have a devoted and professional group of staff caring for our elderly,” he said.  “It would be understandable to get distracted during this period, but they know how important their work is.”

More than 200 employees staff the Manor, including nurses, aides, dietary, housekeeping, laundry and administration.

Freeholder James Dunkins, Chair of the Department of Health acknowledged that this is an unprecedented time in the institution’s history.  However, he said families of Manor residents should be assured that their loved ones are in good hands.   “We have certainly faced some challenges,” Dunkins said.  But in every case, we’re making adjustments to ensure the safety and high level of care of our residents.”
