CUMBERLAND COUNTY OEM STILL WORKING HARD
UPPER - DEERFIELD & UPPER – HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP
As a result of the storms in Upper Deerfield and Upper Hopewell townships on Friday evening the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management and County Officials have been working hard all weekend to clear debris and get things returned to normal in the areas affected. Additionally, Public Utility companies like Atlantic Electric and Verizon have also been working to get the power and other utilities back on for those residents.
As a result of the storms, many trees and utility poles were down, and more than a dozen roads had to be closed for public safety. County Officials are still hard at work to return things to normal and clear all the debris. “Cleanup is underway and progress is going well, but not all roads are open yet. As a result of the storms Friday evening more than 2,800 county residents were without power in the Upper Deerfield and Upper Hopewell Township area. Today, 265 residents in that area still remain without power”, said Cumberland County Freeholder Director Carl Kirstein.
Severe thunderstorms, which produced heavy rains, intense downpours, and straight line winds, knocked down utility poles, tress, and blew debris across the region, causing downed power wires and making many roads completely impassable. The wind damage is truly remarkable. Unlike the recent storm that hit the area about a week ago, this storm didn’t produce as much flooding as it did wind damage. As a result of the damage from the storm, more than a dozen roads had to be closed. Upper Deerfield and Upper Hopewell Townships areas are not back to normal yet, but the county is working on it. Things are underway and progress is being made.

1) John Dare Road (CR 726) between Columbia Hwy. (CR 726) and Seeley Cohansey Road (CR 723) is still CLOSED. This road remains impassable.
2) Foster Road (CR 630) between Parsonage Road (CR 743) and Finley Road (CR 617) is still CLOSED.
3) Seeley Road (CR 612) between Center District Road (CR 663) and Cake Road is still CLOSED, however one lane is passable for emergency vehicles and local traffic only.
4) Old Deerfield Pike (CR 606), between Parsonage Road (CR 743) and Finley Road (CR 617) is now *OPEN*.
5) Seeley Road (CR 612) between Finley Road (CR 617) and Cake Road is *OPEN*.
6) Cake Road is now *OPEN*.
7) Walters Road is now *OPEN*.
8) Holding Road (CR 693) is now *OPEN*.
Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management has put up Barricades to Close Roads for Public Safety, and they ask that you don’t move the barricades or access those areas.
