Balancing the Scales on Crime in the County

Cumberland County Freeholder Director Joe Derella is meeting the challenges of addressing crime in the County head on and he wants other key players to join him in taking on this issue. Director Derella is encouraging difference makers to attend this Roundtable discussion to address the challenges the County faces everyday as it relates to crime.

Director Derella said, "As the Liaison to the Department of Public Safety, as well as the Director of the Freeholder Board, I believe that it is incumbent upon all of us to work to be a part of the solution. Cumberland County is a wonderful place to live and we enjoy an exceptional quality of life. With that said, we also must recognize that we are not without our challenges. This Forum is designed to bring talented people around the table and focus on programs that are working and to develop new initiatives that will serve as the catalyst to decrease crime. We encourage and hope that the residents of our county will attend and participate in this discussion".

Leaders representing Government, Community, Education, Law Enforcement, Faith Based and Non-Profit Organizations have been invited to join the roundtable discussion. Experts in these areas will examine the issues, share ideas and begin to formulate a plan that will include goals and objectives. These goals and objectives will serve as the foundation to providing new and innovative alternatives to addressing crime in our communities.

Director Derella said, "We want to take a proactive approach to address the challenges and identify opportunities where we can implement innovative practices as used by other agencies and organizations that have decreased crime and increased communication with public officials and law enforcement in their communities. Everyone is welcome to attend."

While there is no fee, registration is encouraged to ensure that seating is available. The event will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Luciano Family Center for Public Service and Leadership at Cumberland County College.
