Freeholders Authorize State Funded Road Project Completion

Bridgeton, NJ - In the wake of Governor Christie’s Executive Order 210 that directed a shutdown of all projects funded by the State’s Transportation Trust Fund, the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders unanimously approved Resolution #2016-378 on Tuesday August 16, 2016 due to concerns with public safety. This resolution authorizes the County Engineer to proceed with finalizing partially constructed road projects that were suspended due to the concern of how these unfinished road projects could adversely impact public safety.

Public Works Liaison Freeholder Jim Quinn said it is unconscionable to leave these projects unfinished while we wait for State to lift the ban on road work that is state funded. Schools will be in session soon and we have constituents whose quality of life is being impacted by the large potholes in the roadways. Not only are the walls in their homes shaking every time a vehicle hits one of those large voids, but also the safety of motoring public is a concern. I am very pleased that the entire Freeholder Board agreed to make this a priority.”

Freeholder Jim Sauro, who serves as the alternate Liaison for Department of Public Works said that “the projects that we authorized for completion include, CR 610 Cedarville Road from Route 49 to Bogden Boulevard, CR 655 Lincoln Avenue from Main Road to Pennsylvania Avenue, CR 638 Burlington Road from Buckshutem Road to Reeves Road and CR 630 Old Deerfield Pike from Parsonage Road to Route 77. He said the motoring public will see work resuming on these roads in the near future.
The County apologizes for the delays in construction as a result of State actions beyond our control.”
