6/14/2021 - Cumberland County Offering Free Fans - Office of Aging & Disabled
BRIDGETON – Cumberland County officials this week announced a free fan distribution program to eligible residents later this month in an effort to prepare for the summer heat.

The Cumberland County Office of Aging and Disabled acquired 250 fans for a contactless drive-thru program. Distribution is on a first-come-first-serve basis and qualified residents will be able to pick up their fan on June 24th beginning at 1pm.

“After a warm winter, we’re expecting a blazing summer,” said Cumberland County Commissioner Director Joseph Derella. “We want to help our mature and senior residents prepare for the impending summer heat, and these 250 fans are just the way to help out.”

Any Cumberland County resident 60 years of age or older is eligible. The fans are limited to one per household. To pick up a fan, residents must provide their name, address, and date of birth during pick-up.

To help the community, South Jersey Industries is donating $1,000 to the County to help cover the cost of the fans. Upon pickup, The County will assist residents in loading the 20-inch box fans into their trunk.

“Due to COVID-19, our cooling centers were closed to seniors last year,” said Commissioner Carol Musso. “With this distribution, we aim to provide some needed relief to those individuals who otherwise would utilize our cooling centers. We are grateful to South Jersey Industries for helping us in assisting our senior community’s needs this summer.”

Eligible Cumberland County residents are invited to stop by the Office of Aging & Disabled on Thursday, June 24th, beginning at 1pm until 3:30pm. The office is located at 800 E. Commerce Street in Bridgeton. For more information, call the Office on Aging at 856-453-2220.
