Cumberland County Hosts National Elections Tabletop Exercise

Bridgeton, NJ (Thursday August 25, 2023)
Cumberland County proudly hosted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency’s (CISA) National Elections Tabletop Exercise on August 17, 2023. Tabletop the Vote is CISA's yearly national election security exercise. It provides an opportunity for federal partners, state and local election officials, and vendors to identify and share best practices and areas for improvement related to election security.

Election officials, emergency management, and IT staff from southern New Jersey were in attendance. This is the first time that the exercise was hosted in Cumberland County at the Cumberland County Technical Education Center (CCTEC). The exercise, which was not in response to any specific or credible threat, took place August 17, 2023.  It included a range of hypothetical scenarios affecting election operations, giving participants the opportunity to share practices around cyber and physical incident planning, preparedness, identification, response, and recovery.

The event was a series of virtual exercises focused on election cybersecurity, preparedness, and situational awareness.  This was performed to prepare our election officials and staff for any event that may encounter. Staff from Cumberland, Cape May, Atlantic, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, and Salem Counties joined the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security (NJOHSP) and the State Division of Elections in participating in a series of election scenarios that will ultimately improve cyber incident planning and election preparedness. Michael Randisi, Elections Cybersecurity Coordinator at NJOHSP, and Dr. Lauren Zyriek Enriquez, assistant NJ Secretary of State, moderated the seminar. Cumberland County Commissioner Director Douglas Albrecht proudly stated “Cumberland County’s proactive team approach to cybersecurity has attracted the attention of many state officials and now nationally, by hosting this exercise. Congratulations to Stan Field and his entire team.”
