FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Cumberland County Expands Mobile Recovery Services with New Unit

Bridgeton, NJ – May 15, 2025 – The Board of County Commissioners and the Cumberland County Department of Human Services are proud to announce the unveiling of its newest mobile unit, reinforcing the county’s commitment to providing critical outreach services through its innovative Recovery On Wheels (ROW) initiative. This latest expansion ensures that residents struggling with substance use disorder continue to have access to life-changing recovery support directly where they need it most. 
Building upon the success of the County’s existing recovery programs, the new ROW vehicle is fully equipped to offer a range of essential services, including: 

  • Navigation and access to treatment on the spot 
  • Peer recovery coaching and connections to clinicians
  • Connection to Recovery Support Services at Capital Recovery Center
  • Sober Living and other various housing initiatives for eligible residents
  • Narcan (opioid overdose reversal) education and distribution
  • Access to social services and referrals
  • Needle disposal and safe health practices
  • Hepatitis A vaccinations and health screenings 
  • Temporary identification assistance to aid in treatment access
  • Disposal of prescription drugs
  • Distribution of drug-deactivation Deterra Pouches

“This initiative is a true testament to the power of collaboration,” said Melissa Niles, Department Head of Cumberland County Human Services. “With funding provided through the State of NJ Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and support from our County agencies and partners, we are continuing to take recovery directly to the community, eliminating barriers and ensuring that help is always within reach.” 
Residents and community members are invited to attend the official unveiling ceremony, which will take place on the front lawn at The Cumberland County Complex, 800 E. Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 12:00pm. The event will celebrate the continued dedication of County officials and advocates working to combat substance use disorder through accessible and compassionate recovery services. 
“The Recovery on Wheels program has already made a significant impact, and this new unit will allow us to reach even more individuals in need,” said James Sauro, Commissioner Director. “Our mission is to bring hope and healing to our community, and this expansion takes us one step closer to achieving that goal.”
