Final NJDOT Approval Secured for Rocap’s Run Culvert Replacement Project
This week, Cumberland County received final approval from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on the plans and specifications required to replace the South Ave. Rocap’s Run Culvert structure located in the City of Bridgeton and Township of Fairfield. This concludes over four years of environmental focused permitting from State & Federal agencies to include the US Coast Guard, US Army Corps of Engineers, DEP elements to include reviews by Tidelands Flood Hazards, Freshwater Wetlands, Endangered species, and State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) due to the previous failed structure dating from the Civil War era and adjacent trolley tracks dating from the early 1900’s. This clears the path to put this project out to bid and mobilize the construction in the coming months.
