The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, under the leadership of Director James Sauro, proudly announces the County’s participation in Operation Green Light for Veterans — a national initiative to honor and recognize the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Operation Green Light for Veterans began in 2021 through a partnership between the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). The campaign raises awareness about the unique challenges veterans face and highlights the vital role counties play in connecting them to local resources and services.
From November 4 through November 11, 2025, Cumberland County will illuminate the Courthouse and Administration Building in green as a visible symbol of gratitude and support for veterans and their families. The color green represents hope, renewal, and well-being — and universally signals “go forward.” By shining a green light, we remind our veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported as they move forward in their lives after service.
Director James Sauro stated, “We encourage every citizen, business, and organization across Cumberland County to participate by changing one light in a visible location—such as a porch, window, or storefront—to green during the week of November 4–11. Together, we can make Cumberland County shine bright for those who have served.”
Residents are invited to share photos on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight and #CumberlandCountyNJ.
