10/30/2026 - Cumberland County Announces Integration of OET Transportation Services into Cumberland Area Transit System (CATS)

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ — Cumberland County is pleased to announce the integration of transportation services currently operated through the Office of Employment and Training (OET) into the Cumberland Area Transit System (CATS). This strategic consolidation is designed to strengthen transportation services, improve operational efficiency, and better coordinate mobility resources for residents throughout Cumberland County.

By bringing the OET transportation operations under CATS, the County will create a more unified transportation system capable of maximizing existing resources, reducing duplication, and expanding opportunities to meet the transportation needs of Cumberland County residents.

CATS, operated through the Cumberland County Office on Aging and Disabled, has a longstanding commitment to providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation. The integration of OET transportation will allow the County to build upon that foundation while continuing to support workforce transportation needs.

“This merger is about strengthening transportation services for our community. By bringing these services together under CATS, we can better coordinate our vehicles, drivers, scheduling, and other resources while creating a transportation system that is positioned to respond to the changing needs of Cumberland County residents,” said Director Sandy Taylor.

A key goal of the consolidation is to make the best possible use of County transportation resources. Operating transportation programs within a coordinated system can provide greater flexibility in vehicle utilization, staffing, scheduling, training, maintenance, and service delivery.

"Expanding transportation services in Cumberland County will be a great benefit to our residents that rely on the services," stated Deputy Director Art Marchand.

The integration also creates opportunities for CATS to continue developing a broader mobility network that connects residents to employment, medical appointments, essential services, community programs, and other important destinations.

“Transportation is more than getting someone from one location to another — it provides access to opportunity, independence, healthcare, employment, and community,” Lisa Williams, Director of the Office on Aging and Disabled said. “This integration gives us an opportunity to strengthen that connection and build a more efficient and sustainable transportation system for Cumberland County.”

The County is committed to making the transition as seamless as possible for individuals who currently rely on OET transportation. Additional information regarding the transition, scheduling procedures, and transportation services will be communicated as implementation moves forward.
The integration represents Cumberland County’s continued commitment to collaboration, responsible use of public resources, and innovative approaches to meeting the needs of its residents.
