May is National Military Appreciation Month—a time to pause, reflect, and honor the extraordinary dedication and sacrifice of our service members, past and present. Officially recognized by Congress in 1999, this month was established to ensure the nation has a designated time to show appreciation for the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. It's a moment to recognize the courage it takes to wear the uniform, the strength of the families who support them, and the legacy of freedom they help uphold each day. One of the most significant observances during this month is Memorial Day, which originated after the Civil War as Decoration Day—a time to honor fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers. Today, it stands as a solemn reminder of those who gave their lives in service to our country, ensuring that their sacrifice is never forgotten. To all who serve and have served—thank you for your bravery, your service, and your unwavering devotion.
